First book on LEY company and family history published

From 1856 to 1945, the Rud. Ley company developed shoe machines, electrical engineering and very advanced automobiles that were in demand around the world.

What remains of such a company that has not existed for 80 years now?

The search for remnants in written documents, but also in material form, which became possible after 1990, was laborious and very exciting.

The Internet helped, bringing together searchers and owners of information and products that still existed.

The remnants could be put together like puzzle pieces and now give a fairly clear picture of the company's actions and the people who drove the company forward.

Joachim König has now summarized the core of today's knowledge and published it in a book.

　戦前の資料の整理や、現在の所有者を特定する作業は、とても大変だったかと思います。

戦争の影響で会社の歴史や資料をまとめる事も出来ないまま突然閉鎖され、靴機械に関しては戦後、最高品質の製法として受け継がれることはありませんでしたが、幸運にもドイツ軍用ブーツ工場の工場長が、当時戦禍を逃れるために自宅の地下に避難させた、状態の良い機械が見つかり、現在日本で稼働できていることを嬉しく思います。

　そして閉鎖から約80年経った現在、興味を持ってくださった国内外の靴、ブーツメーカーの方が見学にお越しいただき、カナダのブーツメーカーでは既に導入され、イタリア、オランダ、フランス、イギリス、ポーランド、オーストリア、日本においても、ここ数年で新たな所有者が少しづつ増えてきており、この木釘（ペース）でレザーソールを止め付ける技術と機械が見直されつつあることを実感しています。

　今回、初めての書籍が出版されたことにより、Rud. Leyという当時世界に影響を与えたドイツの自動車製造技術のパイオニアであり靴機械エンジニアの存在が、より多くの方に知っていただけるきっかけになれば嬉しいです。
